Research stays for two doctoral students from Galatasaray University - Istanbul - Turkey
Esra CAKIR and Mehmet Ali TAS are two doctoral students from Galatasaray University, a French-speaking Turkish public university in Istanbul (Turkey), considered one of the most prestigious universities in Turkey.
During two months Esra and Mehmet conducted research work under the supervision of Dr. hab Christophe PAOLI. As part of the SAPHiR project, they have to explore the possibility of combining fuzzy logic and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) concepts. XAI is artificial intelligence (AI) in which humans can understand the decisions or predictions made by the AI.
Esra and Mehmet have first conducted a state of the art concerning the interpretability of Deep Learning, with the aim to provide necessary background knowledge for understanding the recent findings in this field. Then, a study on a specific use case was undertaken to try opening the black box of artificial neural networks.
This research stay has been founded with the support of the French embassy and the French Institute in Turkey.
